Join us for this unique two-part workshop delivered by Dr Laura Dominique and Mr Keith Harbottle that focuses on vulnerability, assessment of interviewee communication needs and the subsequent impact of vulnerabilities on communication in the investigative interview.

Workshop 1 (Vulnerability and Assessment of Communication Needs; 2 hours) will focus initially on the concept of vulnerability, how its recognised and identified in the criminal justice system in England and Wales before moving onto how an intermediary assessment of communication needs may be conducted with a vulnerable interviewee. Drawing on Dr Laura Dominique’s Registered Intermediary experience, reference to specific areas of communication that are important for an investigative interview, will all be explored.

Workshop 2 (Impact of Vulnerability on Communication; 2 hours) draws upon workshop 1 and explores the impact of vulnerabilities on communication needs in the investigative interview, and what strategies could be employed to ensure that best evidence is always elicited. Real life case examples will be discussed that challenge what best practice investigative interviewing may look like with an onus on trauma informed practices.

These workshops will be useful for any criminal justice professional, or anyone involved in investigative interviewing that is interested in learning more about the impact of vulnerability on communication needs in the investigative interview and ensuring best practice when interviewing a vulnerable individual. On completion you will receive a personalised certificate of attendance.

Workshops can be attended as stand-alone events or individuals can book onto both.

Each workshop is £75 each.
